Acupuncture & Herbs for Postpartum Care in Wheat Ridge

Care for the body that grew a baby.

Whether you were pregnant last month or decades ago, you deserve postpartum care that helps you regain your strength, feel good in your body, and thrive. You don’t need to accept your symptoms simply because you’ve been told they are “normal” in a postpartum body. Just because symptoms are common doesn’t mean they are “normal,” and we want to help you feel the best you possibly can.

Holistic Postpartum Support

The weeks and months immediately following a pregnancy are a critical window of time to strengthen the body and support overall health. This “fourth trimester” is a time to lean on support from friends and family, your community, and your healthcare team. We use acupuncture and herbal medicine to help your body receive nourishment, rest deeply, and navigate the big physiological changes that come with the transition.

But we don't just help with postpartum care right after the baby is born. If you’ve had a baby, you are living in a postpartum body.

Acupuncture Helps Through All Stages of Postpartum Care

The Fourth Trimester (The First 12 Weeks)

The immediate postpartum window is when your body is doing the most healing, and often when you have the least time to care for yourself. Acupuncture and herbs offer focused, restorative support during this depleted, demanding stage.

Common concerns we treat:

  • Poor milk supply

  • Anxiety, overwhelm, or the "baby blues"

  • Constipation

  • Poor appetite

  • Sleep difficulties

  • Night sweats

The infant and toddler years

The physical demands of caring for a small child—nursing, lifting, carrying, sleeping in odd positions—show up in the body in predictable ways. This is when many mothers first start experiencing the wrist pain, neck pain, and back pain that can linger long after the early postpartum window has passed.

Common concerns we treat:

  • Wrist pain ("mommy thumb" / De Quervain's)

  • Upper back, neck, and shoulder pain

  • Lower back and SI joint pain

  • Ongoing breastfeeding and milk supply support

  • Weaning support

  • Sleep support

  • Appetite and digestion

  • Pelvic floor concerns and incontinence

Postpartum beyond the early years

Many mothers come to us months or years later still feeling the effects of pregnancy and birth: energy that never came back, persistent low back pain, anxiety that started postpartum and stayed.

Common concerns we treat:

  • Anxiety and depression that began postpartum

  • Fatigue and energy that "never came back"

  • Persistent low back and SI joint pain

  • Hormonal shifts and cycle changes after pregnancy

A Complement to the Care You Already Have

Acupuncture works alongside your OB/GYN, midwife, pelvic floor PT, lactation consultant, and therapist. Many of our postpartum patients use it to address symptoms their providers can't fully treat, to support recovery alongside pelvic floor therapy, or simply to have a calm, restorative hour that’s just for them, sheltered from the demands of the world.

We can help identify when you need additional support and recommend providers that we trust to get you the care you need.

What to Expect at Your First Postpartum Care Appointment

Your first visit includes a thorough intake covering your reproductive history, symptoms, a full body system review, and your treatment goals. From there, your acupuncture treatment will be tailored to your current needs, and we may suggest a custom herbal formula.

Postpartum concerns typically respond over a series of treatments. Many patients notice improvement within the first two to four visits, with deeper changes building over the following weeks as herbs and acupuncture work together.

Postpartum Acupuncture is for…

  • People whose bodies hurt from breastfeeding, holding their kiddo, or newly unstable joints

  • People who are experiencing overwhelm, anxiety, or depression in the wake of a pregnancy or loss

  • People whose pelvic muscles or bladder are challenged by laughing, sneezing, or jumping
