How is Sports Acupuncture Different From Dry Needling?

Dry needling typically targets one muscle group for a short session, often in a physical therapy setting. Sports medicine acupuncture uses the same fine needles but draws on a broader diagnostic framework. We assess how injuries connect across the body, address compensation patterns, support the nervous system for faster healing, and draw on the wisdom of an ancient, integrated system of healing.

Furthermore, acupuncturists receive thousands of hours of training over the course of several years (part of their Master’s Degree) to perfect their craft, whereas practitioners of dry needling are required to complete only 40 hours of needling training.

Many of our patients come to us after dry needling, PT, cortisone injections, or even consultations for surgery. They're often surprised how much further sports acupuncture takes them.

What to Expect at Your First Sports Acupuncture Appointment

Your first visit includes a thorough intake that covers your injury or pain, your training history, and how the pain is showing up in your life. From there, treatment is hands-on and tailored. Most people feel noticeable relief within the first one to three sessions, though chronic issues may take longer.

You'll leave with a clear sense of what's going on, what we're working toward, and what you can do between visits.

Sports Acupuncture is for….
